How it works

How to make an Instagram grid

  1. Step 1: Add one photo

Choose or drop the picture you want to spread across your profile.

  2. Step 2: Choose the grid

Three columns, and as many rows as you like. For a carousel, use one row.

  3. Step 3: Download and post

Post the pieces in their number order, starting with 01, and the picture comes together on your profile.

One picture, a whole profile

  • Posting order

Pieces are numbered so the first one you post ends up at the bottom right, where it belongs.

  • Seamless carousels

Cut a panorama into one row of slides that flow into each other as people swipe.

  • One ZIP

Every piece in a single download, ready to move to your phone.

  • Private

The photo is cut in your browser and never leaves your device.

In detail

Grids and carousels that line up

How the posting order works

Your profile shows the newest post at the top left. So the piece that belongs at the bottom right has to be posted first, and the top-left piece last.

The pieces are numbered that way for you: post 01 first, then 02, and so on. When the last one is up, the picture is complete.

Grids and carousels

Profile grid

Keep three columns, as the profile shows three posts across, and choose how many rows. Three rows make a 3 × 3 grid of nine posts.

Seamless carousel

Set rows to 1 and choose how many slides. A wide panorama cut this way flows from one slide into the next as people swipe.

Tips for a grid that lines up

  • Use a photo whose shape matches the grid: three pieces across and three down needs a photo that is as tall as it is wide, or taller for portrait pieces.
  • Keep important details away from the cuts between pieces.
  • Check how your profile currently crops posts into thumbnails, and leave a little room at the edges of each piece.

Frequently asked questions

In which order should I post the pieces?

Start with the piece numbered 01, which is the bottom-right one, and finish with the highest number, the top-left piece. Your profile shows the newest post first, so the picture comes together at the end.

How do I make a seamless carousel?

Set the rows to 1 and the columns to the number of slides you want, then post all pieces together in one carousel, in their number order.

How many rows can I have?

As many as the photo allows. Three columns and three rows is the most common grid.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is cut in your browser, on your own device, and never sent anywhere.

Is there a watermark?

No. The pieces are exactly your photo, with nothing added.
