From sheet to animation
A sprite sheet is one image holding every frame of an animation in a grid. Tell the tool how many columns and rows it has, or how large one frame is, and it cuts the sheet into frames, left to right and top to bottom, and plays them.
The grid is guessed when the sheet opens: a strip of square frames, or a common size such as 16, 32 or 64 pixels that cuts through no drawing. Cells with nothing in them are skipped, so a half-filled last row does not make the animation blink.
