How it works

How to convert PNG to ICO

  1. Step 1: Add your image

A square PNG with a transparent background works best. JPG, WebP and others work too.

  2. Step 2: Choose the sizes

16, 32 and 48 px cover favicons. Add 256 px for a sharp Windows app icon.

  3. Step 3: Download the .ico

Every size you picked is packed into a single icon file.

Private, free and fast

  • Never uploaded

Conversion runs in your browser. Your files stay on your device, and nobody else ever sees them.

  • Every size in one file

The browser or Windows picks the right size from the same .ico, from tab icon to desktop.

  • Pixel art stays crisp

Small images are enlarged without blurring, so 16 px pixel icons keep their hard edges.

  • Transparency kept

Transparent areas stay transparent, and non-square images are centred on a clear background.

In detail

Making a good icon

Which sizes do you need?

An ICO file can hold several sizes of the same icon, and each app picks the one that fits.

  • Favicon for a website: 16, 32 and 48 px.
  • Windows app or shortcut icon: add 256 px so it stays sharp on large icon views.
  • 24 and 64 px help Windows at other display scales.

Start from a good image

A square image with a transparent background gives the cleanest result. Non-square images are centred on a transparent square, so nothing is cropped.

Keep the design simple: at 16 px only bold shapes stay readable. Small pixel art is enlarged without smoothing, so its hard edges stay crisp.

Adding the favicon to your website

Name the file favicon.ico and place it in the root folder of your site, where browsers look for it automatically. You can also link it from your page’s head with <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="any">.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to Moriqa or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Can one ICO file contain several sizes?

Yes. Every size you select is packed into the same .ico file, and browsers or Windows choose the best one to display.

Will the ICO work in all browsers and on Windows?

Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the icon, which every modern browser and Windows Vista or later support.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent areas in your PNG stay transparent in the icon.

Can I convert a JPG or WebP to ICO?

Yes. Any image works. Keep in mind that JPG has no transparency, so its background will appear in the icon.

What if I add several images?

Each image becomes its own .ico file. Download them one by one or together as a ZIP.

Design the icon itself

Draw it on a crisp pixel canvas or with editable shapes in Moriqa, then export it as an ICO.
